Investment in Band Karkheh oil field development approved by Economic Council

SHANA (Tehran) – The Economic Council, during its meeting on Monday, reviewed and approved a request from the Ministry of Oil to amend a previous resolution regarding a gas supply project for power plants on Kish Island and to invest in the development and operation of the Band Karkheh oil field.

First Vice President Mohammadreza Aref, speaking at the Economic Council meeting, emphasized the 14th administration’s commitment to unity and stated, “While we acknowledge some shortcomings, we believe that solidarity and empathy are essential to continuing our work and addressing the people’s demands.”

Aref noted that oversight, questioning, investigation, and impeachment are among the parliament’s responsibilities. He cautioned against getting caught up in peripheral and non-substantive issues, particularly in the digital space.

“The difference between the digital space and other mechanisms is that when someone writes a letter or criticism to an official, they may draft it multiple times or even discard it. However, in the digital space, people often click and send first, then read later. Unfortunately, these writings sometimes become the basis for judgment.”

The First Vice President expressed gratitude that the government has avoided such distractions, attributing this to the president’s clear and principled approach.

“The president’s ethics, transparency, and belief in all values, especially in solving people’s problems and advancing the country’s development, are his defining characteristics. Everyone working with him adheres to this model,” Aref said.

He urged members of parliament to prioritize unity, warning that the primary goal of adversaries is to sow division, create discord, and waste time and energy. “One important way to avoid falling into their trap is to be more cautious in the digital space and examine how natural disagreements are portrayed as if they are enemies,” Aref added.

During the meeting, the Economic Council also reviewed and approved the Ministry of Oil’s request to amend its resolution on the gas supply project for Kish Island power plants, invest in the development and operation of the Band Karkheh oil field, and address the Ministry of Energy’s request regarding the valuation of goods and services and the allocation of work for the emergency 5,000-megawatt solar power plant project.
