Iran, Kazakhstan Sign Energy Cooperation MoU

TEHRAN (Shana) – A Memorandum of Understanding on oil and gas cooperation was signed by the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company in the presence of the Presidents of Iran and Kazakhstan.

According to National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) website, the Joint Commission for cooperation between the two countries was held on Sunday, June 19, in the presence of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Iranian Minister of Petroleum Javad Owji.

The document was signed by the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Mohsen Khojastehmehr and the CEO of the Kazakhstan Gas Company.

Iran and Kazakhstan are two well-known oil countries and it is envisaged that this memorandum, in whose clauses cooperation in various fields has been stipulated, will become important contracts for the use of capacities and the development of cooperation.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and his Kazakh counterpart met last year on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Summit in Tajikistan, and it was decided to increase cooperation, including rail cooperation.

The Minister of Petroleum also met with the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, Bulat Aqchulaqov, on the sidelines of the Baku Energy Conference in May.
