Iran Keen on Gas Export to Neighbors

TEHRAN (Shana) – The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) voiced Iran’s preparedness to export natural gas to its neighbors such as Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, etc.

Regarding Turkmenistan, Majid Chegeni said the National Iranian Gas Company has focused its efforts on attracting gas to the southern borders and importing gas to Iran.

He said the NIGC plans for cooperation with Turkey and Iraq, to ​​which the Iranian gas transmission infrastructure is now connected, is primarily focused on implementation its current contracts at full capacity, and in the next step, by developing the transmission infrastructure, enhance trade capacity between the two countries.

Chegeni added: “Countries with which there is currently no infrastructure connection are divided into two categories; first, the countries where the pipeline infrastructure network is designed to transport gas, such as Pakistan and to some extent Afghanistan and Oman, about which we are trying to provide the ground for implementation of these projects and the relevant gas contract to be signed and implemented.”

In the case of other neighboring countries, where little work has been done and pipelines have not been designed, efforts are being made to work closely with these countries to define joint projects.
