TEHRAN – An agreements on export of Samand to Russia and its production in that country was signed between Iran's Auto Industry Development Company on behalf of Iran Khodro and a Russian UAZ auto manufacturing company.

According to the terms of the agreement, the car would be first exported under SKD and after one year the assembly line for the car would be operational in Russia. CKD parts would be exported to Russia and assembled there, an MNA report said Wednesday. Managing Director of Auto Industry Development Company Biyuk Alimoradlou said in the first phase, 5000 passenger cars of Samand model would be introduced into the Russian market, after facilitating sales services. Referring to the highly competitive nature of the Russian market after the collapse of the former Soviet Union, Alimoradlou asserted that the move started last year is considered Iranian automotive industry's first encounter in the world's highly competitive auto markets. "We should be very careful about the quality of our products," he stated. "After the collapse of the former Soviet Union, in addition to the domestic Russian car producers, auto manufacturing companies such as Ford, the U.S. General Motors Company, Korean companies Hyundai and KIA Motors have gained a significant foothold in Russian auto market. Meanwhile, the Russian Lada and UAZ in collaboration with General Motors, Hyundai as well as the Municipality of Moscow have started to cooperate with France's Renault to manufacture automobiles in Russia.
