MD-1 Offshore Rig Moving towards South Pars Phase 11

TEHRAN (Shana) -- The CEO of MAPNA Drilling Company said the MD-1 offshore rig was moving towards phase 11 of the South Pars gas field.

According to MAPNA, Fazel Jamalzadeh pointed out that after completing a two-year contract with the Iranian Offshore Oil Company, MAPNA won a three-year tender to lease a rig to drill wells in the South Pars Phase 11 development project.

“The MD-1 offshore rig was discharged from Soroush Oil Field on October 31 and is on its way to the Iran-Qatar border, where it is expected to be installed in the next five days,” the official said.

He stated that drilling of 12 wells in this phase was planned, adding, in the first stage, drilling and completion of five wells, including a vertical well and four horizontal wells at the SPD-11B platform for production from the Kangan reservoir were planned.

After installation of the topside, seven directional wells would be drilled and completed in the project, he added.

The development plan for Phase 11 of South Pars has been fully entrusted to Petropars due to sanctions and the withdrawal of France’s Total and the international branch of China’s CNPC.
