SZOGPC Localizes Technology to Construct Borehole Imager

TEHRAN (Shana) – Iran’s South Zagros Oil and Gas Production Company (SZOGPC) has indigenized construction of borehole imagers which was previously monopolized by a few foreign companies.

According to the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company, Hamid Izadi, SZOGPC CEO, said localizing construction of the equipment ended its production monopoly held by a few foreign companies.

He said the imager was designed and built by local specialists over a three-year period.

The official said that the device had been successfully tested on one of the wells of Homa Gas Field and the images and data it had produced were used for repairing the well.

Borehole imaging refers to those logging and data-processing methods that are used to produce centimeter-scale images of the borehole wall and the rocks that make it up. Borehole imaging has been one of the most rapidly advancing technologies in wireline well logging. The applications range from detailed reservoir description through reservoir performance to enhanced hydrocarbon recovery.
