OPEC+ Cooperation Charter not Contradictory to General Provisions of OPEC Statute

VIENNA (Shana) – 13 OPEC member states added a paragraph to the OPEC-non-OPEC Cooperation Charter in the organization’s 176th meeting to get the approval of Iran which had seriously opposed the charter.

According to the charter, whatever stipulated in the charter is fully voluntary and does not contract the general provisions of the OPEC Statute.

Despite having won the approval of 13 OPEC members as well as 10 non-OPEC allies of the organization, Iran was the only country that had opposed the charter.

The 176th meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) began on Monday afternoon in Vienna and took over 5 hours.
