FM calls for stronger Coop. for securing Iran, Pakistan Borders

ISLAMABAD (Shana) – Iran and Pakistan are required to exercise strong cooperation for securing their borders and prevent terrorist operations, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

During a meeting with his Pakistani opposite number Khawaja Asif, Mr. Zarif emphasized cooperation in political and economic fields, and said: "Iran and Pakistan, as two friends and neighbors with common borders, are required to exercise strong cooperation for securing their borders and prevent terrorist operations.

At the same time, the foreign minister of Pakistan stressed the development of political and economic relations between the two neighbors, adding: "We are ready to cooperate in various political and economic spheres. We want stable borders for both countries."

The two sides also discussed and exchanged views on a range of topics including assistance to the peace process in Afghanistan, development of banking cooperation, energy, Iran's readiness to supply Pakistan's electricity, cooperation and interaction between Chabahar and Guadar ports, development of border markets and international issues, and the issues of the Islamic world, creating more facilities by Iran for Pakistani pilgrims who travel to Iran for pilgrimage to Imam Reza (AS), multilateral cooperation, especially in economy, aimed at contributing to stability and peace in the region, fighting terrorism and extremist groups, and drug trafficking.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Pakistan on Sunday on a three-day visit for talks on regional issues.
