Trump to extend Iran Nuclear Deal Deadline in May: Official

TEHRAN (Shana) -- A senior Iranian oil official predicted that US President Donald Trump will extend his imposed deadline to revise the Iran nuclear deal.

Addressing the 2nd International Congress and Exhibition of Oil Exploration and Production and the 5th International Congress and Exhibition of Iran's Drilling Industry here in Tehran on Saturday, Amir Hossein Zamani-nia, Deputy Petroleum Minister for International Affairs and Trading, said one of the positive outcomes of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for Iran has been repatriating its oil cash since implementation of the historic nuclear deal.

"I expect that US President Donald Trump will extend a deadline to revise Iran's nuclear deal," he said.

The official also called on the domestic private sector to join investments in petroleum projects as domestic and foreign investments are complementary to each other.

Referring to the fact that the oil industry, after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, was able to stand on its own, said: "Iran's oil output does not match the size of its reserves, which is thanks to political issues."

The official noted that the JCPOA implementation resolved some of the oil industry's problems, including crude oil sales, and "we are now receiving our cash from the sale of oil", adding that the supply of equipment for the industry has also been a JCPOA achievement in the oil industry.

He noted the existence of banking problems, adding that such shortcomings have nothing to do with Iran's nuclear deal.

"I expect the United States to renew a deadline to suspend Iran's nuclear sanctions once again in May, and from then on, JCPOA implementation will continue in a better mode."

The official further described Donald Trump's behavior as a school bully and said: "Such attitude by the US president is not specific to Iran, as the European Union is not happy with Mr. Trump's conduct and rhetoric."
