Iran Set to Become Petrol Exporter: MP

TEHRAN, May 01 (Shana) -- A member of the Iranian parliament says full operation of Persian Gulf Star Refinery will turn Iran into an exporter of petrol.

Ali Adyani said Iran will join the club of petrol exporters by the time the facility becomes fully operational adding 36 million liters of petrol to the country's daily production capacity.

He said the project is 80% constructed by state-of-the-art domestic technologies, adding the project's first phase with 12 ml/d of petrol production capacity minimizes the gap between supply and demand in the country.

The MP said production of petroleum products is in line with the policies of Economic Resilience that has been advised by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani officially launched the first phase of a landmark natural gas condensate refinery project in the southern province of Bushehr.

The project adds 12 million liters of Euro-4 gasoline to Iran's daily production capacity, rendering the country needless if importing gasoline.

Construction of the refinery began in 2006 under the severest sanctions on Iran's key economic sectors.

Once fully operational, it will supply 36 million liters of quality petrol which makes Iran an exporter of the strategic item.

Besides, it will supply 14 ml/d of gasoil and 3.37ml of jet fuel.

The facility is fed by gas condensate (ultralight crude oil) recovered from the supergiant South Pars Gas Field.
