New Round of Exploration Drilling to Begin in Caspian Sea

TEHRAN, Aug 02 (Shana) – The semi-submersible Amirkabir platform has been fixed in its position in the Caspian Sea, subsequently new round of exploration drilling of Caspian Oil Company in the new position will be launched per the directive of the Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zanganeh.

Head of the Caspian Oil Company Farhang Khatibi told Shana that now operations to displace the semi-submersible Iran Amirkabir platform to be fixed in the new exploration drilling position in the Caspian Sea have been completed.

He said drilling in deep waters is something which is dramatically different with that in the onshore and less deep water locations regarding special environmental conditions of the operations.

The official said new round of drilling activities in the Caspian Sea will be possible just on the directive of the Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zanganeh.

Times earlier, the license for the operations has been issued by the Supreme National Security Council, he added.

Operations to displace the national structure to a new position in the Caspian Sea was possible using knowledge and experience of Iranian experts and multipurpose Caspian vessels in southeastern part of Sardar Jangal field, 116 kms from 6.2 block and hours before full commissioning of the displacement operations, the platform was moved to a new position.
