Veep: Selling Flared Gas in Line with Paris Agreement Fulfillment

TEHRAN, July 26 (Shana) -- Director of Iran's Department of the Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar said the the administration has started preparations for Iran's submission to the Paris Agreement on climate change, saying the agreement to sell flared gas to the private sector is a step towards realization of the agreement's goals in Iran.

Speaking in a ceremony to sign the deal on Tuesday, Ebtekar said selling the gas to the private sector is a crucial step in fulfillment of the administration's duties regarding reduction of greenhouse emissions and revision to energy production and consumption patterns in the country.

"Gathering associated gasses is an economic and environmental and a step towards realization of Iran's international commitments," she said.

The Paris Agreement (French: L'accord de Paris) is an agreement within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dealing with greenhouse gases emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020.
