Delivery of Offshore Drilling Rig Starts in Caspian Sea

TEHRAN, July 25 (Shana) -- The operation to transport Amir Kabir Semi-Submersible Drilling Rig began in the Caspian Sea in the wee hours of Monday, July 25.

Farhang Khatibi, caretaker of Khazar Oil Company, told Shana that the operation began at 3:25 am on Monday from the 2.6 Khazar Oil Block.

The platform left the block after it explored crude reserves in the area. Now it is being delivered to 1.8 Khazar Block for further exploration work.

Khatibi said the delivery will take at least 24 hours provided that the climatic conditions are OK.

Amir Kabir Semi-Submersible Drilling Rig explores and drills oil wells to extract Iran’s first share of the oil from the Caspian Sea.

GVA 4000 design was the basis for the detailed design and shop drawing which were done at SADRA’s Neka complex.

The rig’s equipment and machinery are the most advanced in the offshore drilling industry and special technology was used to contract the rig at SADRA’s Caspian sea complex, Neka. The rig comprises a main deck, two pontoons and four columns.
