Activities Back to Normal at Bou Ali Sina Petchem Plant

TEHRAN, July 09 (Shana) – Chief of joint operations to put out a raging blaze at Bou Ali Sina Petrochemical Plant says activities are back to normal in the facility.

Ali Safi Khani told Shana on Saturday that the fire was fully extinguished at 5 a.m. and conditions were put back into normal at the facility, located at the heart of Mahshahr Petrochemical Complex in the southwestern province of Khouzestan.

He said firefighting teams are still on alert in the facility "just in case."

No casualties have been reported since the fire first started on Wednesday.

Bou Ali Sina Petrochemical Plant is affiliated with Iranian state-owned National Petrochemical Company (NPC). It is also a subsidiary of Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC).

The fire has been most likely caused by the paraxylene, a highly flammable hydrocarbon, leakage. Fire fighters extinguished the fire the same day it started but the blaze re-erupted later in the day.

Firefighting teams from Khouzestan province as well as the neighboring provinces finally extinguished the blaze on Friday and managed to prevent it from spreading to the nearby tanks of petrochemical products.
