On the production front, RIPI contributed to building an integrated production system model for the Regh-e Sefid field and proposed corrective solutions for pressure decline in that system. Other efforts included deploying a risk-based inspection system at Arvandan Oil and Gas Company, microbial corrosion studies at facilities in southern oil-bearing regions, and implementing water-injection microbial control technology at the Dorud field.

The Institute also designed and executed the first water-injection pilot for enhanced recovery at the Ahvaz field, along with simulation studies for sugarcane wastewater injection at the same field. Further recovery-enhancement projects included a nanofluid injection pilot at the Bilal field, nanofluid injection studies at the Masjed Soleyman field, and evaluation of combustion gas and CO2 injection at the Ramshir field.

Focus on Drilling and Well Technologies

In drilling and well operations, RIPI completed formulation design and field technical services for 96 cementing operations across 17 wells, and controlled lost circulation in four exploratory gas wells using a proprietary LCM drilling additive and specialized control-material formulations.

The Institute also developed polymer gel formulations for water-shutoff in Bilal field wells, produced lightweight drilling cement, formulated ultra-heavy cement for the Bibi Hakimeh field, and advanced microwave-based technical knowledge to reduce asphaltene-related problems. Software development efforts included a condensate well productivity program and a Well Integrated Management System (WIMS).

Localizing Technology in Refining and Petrochemicals

In the downstream sector, RIPI advanced the development and commercialization of technical know-how for essential materials and equipment. Notable technologies include a next-generation H2S adsorbent, a carbon-based terephthalic acid catalyst, hydrotreating catalysts for naphtha and kerosene, and NiW hydrocracking catalysts.

The Institute also contributed to the commercial production of 27 tons of catalyst used in MRU adsorbents at gas refineries and collaborated with eight catalyst manufacturers to localize catalyst production for oil and gas processes.

In process licensing, RIPI's activities covered the light naphtha isomerization and heavy naphtha catalytic reforming units at Mehr Persian Gulf Refinery, the MDHT unit at Qeshm Heavy Oil Refinery, the LPG treatment unit at Morvarid Makran Petro-Refinery, and the TGT and SRU units at Behin Qeshm Refining Company.

Technology to Ease Gas Supply Shortfalls

In the gas sector, RIPI pursued optimization of macro production plans, screening of underground natural gas storage capacities, and corrosion studies of the South Pars Phase 16 subsea gas pipeline.

Other projects included developing ANG technology for flare gas storage, improving efficiency at the sweetening unit of Shahid Hashemi-Nejad Gas Refinery, assessing the feasibility of syngas production from heavy petroleum compounds, and designing and building a coal gasification pilot unit. The Institute also conducted feasibility studies for miniLNG production and storage at Arfa Iron and Steel Company and designed the foundational storage tanks for ANG-based technology at the CGS-TBS station in Golestan province.

In the same sector, RIPI localized technical know-how for turbine lubricants used by the Gas Transmission Company and produced 88,000 liters of oil for turbines used by that company and other industries.

Optimizing Energy with New Technologies

RIPI's energy-sector work included inspection and monitoring services for steam traps at Tabriz Refinery, application of heat-transfer nanofluids at the Zagros Petrochemical methanol production unit, performance testing of the Shahid Rajaei combined-cycle power plant following major overhaul, and an energy audit at Sarkhun Refinery.

Additional projects included simultaneous optimization of the water and steam network at South Pars Refinery Phase 5, a technical energy audit of Khorasan Petrochemical Complex, online monitoring of energy-intensive equipment at Ilam Gas Refinery, modeling and optimization of energy consumption across 15 furnaces at Imam Khomeini Refinery in Shazand, and a technical energy audit at Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex.

Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies

Digital transformation and emerging technologies also featured prominently among RIPI's projects. These included drafting a digital transformation roadmap for Abadan Refinery and the Petrochemical Research and Technology Company, designing a virtual sensor to determine gas output at South Pars Refinery Phase 8, and developing a virtual sensor to predict LPG and NGL compositions at Sarkhun and Qeshm Gas Refinery.

Other initiatives included energy calculation software for the olefin unit at Arya Sasol Polymer Company built on a "digital twin" platform, AI-driven workplace safety process design at Bidboland Gas Refinery in the Persian Gulf, and virtual sensor design for the extractive distillation tower at Nouri Petrochemical.

Environmental Protection

RIPI carried out numerous environmental projects, including soil and groundwater protection at the Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone, remediation of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil at Fajr Jam Gas Refinery, elimination of flare-directed gases at Arya Sasol Polymer Company, and mitigation of soil and groundwater contamination from condensate leaks in Assaluyeh.

Further work included designing a soil and groundwater quality monitoring network for the Pars Energy Special Economic Zone, sustainable green-space pest management for Khuzestan Oil Pipeline and Telecommunications Company, air pollutant dispersion simulation at Pars 1 and the Kangan site, and water, wastewater, and air quality management across the Pars Energy Special Economic Zone.

Additional projects covered smoke-source control at the Bromi landfill in Ahvaz, biopile-based remediation of contaminated soil at a pipeline depot in the Isfahan region, and construction of a permanent biological remediation center for petroleum-contaminated soil in Aghajari.

Advancing Knowledge and Human Capital

On the scientific front, RIPI published 197 papers in reputable national and international journals, along with eight issues of the Petroleum Research scientific journal and four issues of the Petroleum Science and Technology quarterly. Other scientific achievements include a faculty member's inclusion among the world's top 1% most-cited researchers and a top ranking in fundamental research at the Kharazmi International Festival.

The Petroleum Research journal was also selected as one of the top three non-humanities Persian-language journals. RIPI placed third and first, respectively, in the Green Eurasia international climate competitions in 1403 and 1404 (Iranian calendar).

In human capital development, 234 individuals were trained through national service, conscription, internship, and postdoctoral programs. The Institute held 124 training workshops totaling 1,158 hours, with cumulative training participation reaching 27,562 person-hours. More than 220 knowledge-sharing sessions were held to exchange experience from completed technology projects, and 45 joint students were trained in collaboration with leading domestic universities.

Technology on the Path to Commercialization

A central focus of RIPI's activity under the 14th government has been advancing technical know-how toward commercialization in partnership with the private sector.
