TEHRAN, July 03 (Shana) – Iranian Navy 41st Squadron on Saturday managed to prevent 12 boats, carrying 115 armed people, from seizing an Iranian oil tanker.

The pirates were thus had to flee the scene.

Shana quotes National Iranian Oil Tanker Company as saying that the pirates tried to seize an Iranian oil tanker around the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait. They were forced to flee the scene as a result.

The pirates re-attacked Iranian oil tanker in three hours but the Iranian squadron managed to foil their plan.

The Squadron, comprising Martyr Naqdi destroyer and Lavan Cruiser, escorted the oil tanker to a safe position after repelling the pirates.

The squadron was sent to the mission in the free and international waters early June to restore security in the linking and shipping lines, declare the message of peace and friendship to the regional states and to hoist the sacred flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
