Iran, Cyprus Looking to Enhance Energy Ties

TEHRAN, May 17 (Shana) -- South Cyprus Transport Minister Marius Diametre Tidas came to Tehran on Monday to meet with Iranian energy officials in a bid to boost ties with the OPEC-member Iran.

Tidas, in his tour to Tehran, met with Amir Hossein Zamaninia, deputy petroleum minister for international affairs and trading, in his office after meeting with Ali Akbar Safaei, managing director of National Iranian Tanker Company.

The meetings were held with the aim of discussing avenues for future cooperation in transportation and energy grounds.

During the meeting with NITC chief, Tidas and Safaei conferred cooperation of NITC with Cypriot companies in shipping, bunkering, manufacturing, supply of lubricating oils and marine lubrication projects.

"NITC plans to enhance its presence and activities in Cyprus," said Safaei, pointing to the company's presence in the Cypriot marine sector prior to the sanctions on Tehran.
