As Iran looks to significantly expand and modernize its rail network, Siemens will address the future needs of the Iranian people with an upgraded portfolio of rail innovation and mobility management – including the launch of a tailored concept locomotive specifically for the Iranian market - at the Iran Rail Expo 2016 in Tehran, 15 to 18 May.

“Iran is a mature market in terms of rail, and the country’s demographic change is fueling an increasing need for fast, reliable and safe rail networks to support mobility and industrialization,” said Dr. Mohsen Nayebzadeh, CEO of Siemens in Iran. “Our extensive portfolio addresses all the requirements of Iran’s future transport network with technology for urban, fast intercity and freight rail. We are committed to advancing society and making a positive difference to the lives of people in Iran, using innovation, local knowledge and global ingenuity to develop a diverse, fast, modern, efficient and reliable rail network.”

The company will meet Iran’s challenges of rising population and increasing industrialization with rail technology for infrastructure, rolling stock, service, electrification and automation. With an emphasis on efficient and sustainable electric rail, Siemens’ portfolio addresses the requirements for both new infrastructure development and also the modernization and upgrading of existing networks.
At Iran Rail Expo 2016 Siemens will highlight the potential of high-speed rail in Iran to connect fast-growing cities with its Velaro high-speed train, one of the fastest and most efficient high-speed trains in service in the world today. Packed with innovative technology and able to run at 360 km/h, Velaro has a state-of-the-art diagnostic system which wirelessly reports data for preventative maintenance, and an autopilot to help the driver make energy-saving journeys. Globally the Siemens Velaro fleet has traveled more than one billion kilometers.
Siemens will also showcase locomotives and metro systems as well as the passenger coach concept Viaggio Comfort, which is designed for maximum passenger comfort, easy maintenance, low energy consumption and ultra-quiet operation, while still being capable of 230km/h.
The company’s Mobility Consulting division is also positioned to play a key role in the expansion and modernization of Iran’s rail network, by developing strategies and integrated concepts to address the transportation challenges of policy makers, transport operators and other mobility stakeholders. By being an integral part of Siemens in Iran, Mobility Consulting supports key decision makers in developing transportation systems and turning mobility vision into reality.
Siemens has been a contributor of technology to key infrastructure projects in Iran since 1868, maintaining a significant local operation with a substantial service presence. The company is committed to supporting Iran’s sustainable economic development with the application of innovative technology, continuing its role as a reliable partner in electrification, automation and digitization. Siemens also remains a responsible member of society by investing in jobs, education and training.
