Sulfur Fertilizers Boosting Efficiency

TEHRAN June 07(Shana)--Sulfur fertilizer as a by-product of sulfur produced by refining sector could raise efficiency in agricultural products by 23 percent, director of research and technology at the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said.

In statements to Shana, Saeed Pakseresht said Ministry of Agricultural Jihad (MAJ) examinations had shown that using the product could raise the efficiency in growing agricultural products by 23 percent.

He added that the product has not reached commercialization phase yet needing MAJ to support development of the product.

According to him, using sulfur in cultivation prepares good conditions for soil to absorb elements like phosphorus, iron, zinc, manganese and others.

Right now around 16 million hectares of agricultural lands need enrichment, he said, adding using 500 kg of sulfur per each hectare implies that the country should produce 8 million tons of sulfur for the sector.

With specific planning it is likely to use sulfur as one of the products of refining processes for generating high value-added, he concluded.
