Azar Oilfield Phase 2 plans reviewed to sustain production

SHANA (Tehran) – The second Joint Management Committee (JMC) meeting for the Azar oilfield development project focused on maintaining stable production under the country's current conditions while reviewing progress on the field's Phase 2 expansion, implementation challenges and measures to accelerate development.

According to the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Keyvan Yarahmadi, project manager for the Azar oilfield development, said the meeting was held on July 18 with managers and representatives from NIOC and Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), the project owner, as well as Sarvak Azar Engineering and Development Company, the project's main contractor.

Yarahmadi said the field has maintained stable production despite challenging operating conditions, crediting operations and production teams with effectively managing operational issues while keeping development activities on schedule.

The committee reviewed the latest progress on Phase 2, the project's contractual strategy and the continued engagement of subcontractors. Members discussed ways to accelerate development, remove implementation barriers and advance the project's execution, approving a series of measures.

Yarahmadi acknowledged delays in Phase 2 and stressed the need for a recovery plan to address schedule slippage and meet project milestones. The committee also reviewed implementation of decisions from the previous meeting, the project's budget and schedule, and compliance with the terms of the Iran Petroleum Contract (IPC). Members emphasized adherence to contractual obligations and approved work plans.

The meeting also included a report on health, safety and environmental (HSE) performance, with participants reaffirming the importance of maintaining HSE standards throughout construction and production operations.

Yarahmadi said committee members underscored the need for continued coordination among project stakeholders, the timely launch of Phase 2 construction activities, prompt implementation of committee decisions and the removal of execution bottlenecks to achieve the Azar oilfield's production and development targets.
