Phase 12 Development Boosts Self-Reliance, MP

TEHRAN Feb 22(Shana)--Reliance on domestic experts and workforce in development of South Pars gas field phase 12 has enabled the country to advance in engineering and technical services so that it can export these services now.

The member of Energy Commission of Majles (Parliament) Naser Soudani made the remarks in an interview with Shana adding successful development of the phase will generate foreign exchange revenues for the country on the one hand and will rise exports and Iran’s share in world energy markets on the other hand.

Exportation of engineering and technical services is an appropriate way for reducing the restrictions arising from sanctions, Soudani said.

Launching South Pars gas field phase 12 is estimated to raise the country’s gross domestic production (GDP) by 3 percent.

South Pars, divided into 29 development phases, holds 40 tcm of natural gas and 50 billion barrels of condensate.

South Pars covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.

The gas field is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
