Alireza Faizbakhsh made the remarks, adding almost 1.4 million obsolete vehicles have been dismantled up to the end of past Iranian calendar year to March 2014.
He continued that this year 228 thousand worn vehicles have been dismantled so far and the headquarters will step up the process under a law which has not come into force until five years ago.
Elsewhere in his remarks he criticized manufacturing low quality vehicles and motorcycles which play a great role in creating pollution in mega cities.
He called on all institutions to help the headquarters for tackling the problem of pollution in the cities through interaction and cooperation.
