Iran to Become Top Asia Bitumen Exporter

TEHRAN Oct 26 (Shana)--Iran is planning to become the top exporter of bitumen in Asia in six months, managing-director of a main supplier of bitumen said.

Mohsen Delaviz, managing-director of Pasargad Oil Company, said Iran is currently producing 2.3 million tons a year of bitumen, providing four percent of the world’s total needs which equal 100 million tons.

He said Iran is already the first exporter of bitumen in the Middle East, adding that the country is instrumental in this sector due to the quality and price of its bitumen.

Delaviz said Iran has failed in recent years to enjoy the position it deserves in the world markets, but noted that the current political atmosphere facilitates its transactions.

He said Iran has signed a deal for exporting 500,000 tons of bitumen to Oman and is in talks for a 2-million-ton deal with Asian and European countries.

He said Iran is currently exporting bitumen to more than 61 countries and that a short-term deal with South Korea is under discussion.
