Mehdi Sharif said energy efficiency could cut this energy consumption by at least 50 mboe.
“By respecting energy efficiency standards, energy consumption in the oil refineries would decline by at least 6 mboe a year in oil refineries, 5 mboe a year in gas refineries and 50 mboe a year in power plants,” said Sharif.
The barrel of oil equivalent (BOE) is a unit of energy based on the approximate energy released by burning one barrel of crude oil.
The value is necessarily approximate as various grades of oil have slightly different heating values.
One BOE is roughly equivalent to 5,800 cubic feet of natural gas or 58 CCF. The USGS gives a figure of 6,000 cubic feet (170 cubic meters) of typical natural gas.
