According to POGC, Hossein Ahsani, acting head of Health, Safety, Environment and Passive Defense, said the permit was issued following comprehensive technical studies, preparation of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), expert reviews and final approval by the Environmental Assessment Committee of Iran’s Department of Environment.
Ahsani said the approval paves the way for implementing one of the most important development projects in the South Pars field while ensuring full compliance with environmental requirements.
The Phase 11 development plan includes the construction of two offshore wellhead platforms mounted on four-legged jackets in approximately 70 meters of water in the Persian Gulf. The project also calls for a 135-kilometer 32-inch subsea pipeline and associated 4-inch piggyback return lines to transport three-phase hydrocarbons to the Phase 12 onshore processing facilities at the South Pars Gas Complex.
The project is designed to produce 2 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas per day, supporting Iran’s energy supply, maintaining stable gas production and maximizing output from the giant offshore field.
Ahsani noted that environmental approval had previously been granted for Platform B, the first offshore platform in the Phase 11 development program.
He said the environmental review covered all key aspects of the project, including protection of the Persian Gulf marine ecosystem, drilling waste management, air pollution control, operational wastewater treatment and mitigation of environmental risks.
Key environmental requirements include preventing the discharge of produced water into the sea, using flare gas recovery systems, banning continuous gas flaring, conducting real-time emissions monitoring, implementing comprehensive marine environmental monitoring programs and applying advanced drilling mud and cuttings management techniques.
Ahsani said the permit reflects POGC’s commitment to meeting environmental regulations and advancing energy projects in line with sustainable development principles while safeguarding the country’s natural resources.
