TEHRAN -- The booming global economy, growing energy demand, key role of oil and gas in industrial development and promotion of human knowledge for optimizing natural resources necessitates further attention to the dominating role on oil and gas.

According to predictions, demand for oil will more than double in the coming 20 years and natural gas will find special status in the energy basket. Therefore, existing resources as well as scientific facilities have prompted petrochemical policy-makers to adopt an appropriate long-term strategy to deal with national and international issues and invest in this sector. To this end, Isfahan Petrochemical Company -- the leading aromatic producer in the country -- is considered a major national project. The company joined the national petrochemical sector in 1992 in order to offer more than 300,000 tons per annum of aromatics -- benzene, toluene, paraxylene, arthoxylene and xylene mixtures. Production of aromatics in Isfahan Petrochemical Company topped 184,000 tons up to Oct 2003 and the company exported 42,000 tons abroad and supplied 81,000 tons n the domestic markets. In the last Iranian calendar year, Isfahan Petrochemical Company supplied 162,200 tons of petrochemicals on the domestic and foreign markets. In a bid to employ international management systems, Isfahan Petrochemical Company has managed to obtain the 2000 version of ISO 9001 for quality. It is the first petrochemical company in Iran to win ISO 14001 environmental certificate and OHSAS 18001 security management and job health certificate. The petrochemical complex is ready to provide software and hardware research services to other companies. Isfahan Petrochemical Company managed to set the record for 1,660 nonstop work.
