Supporting domestic manufacturers, a national strategy for petrochemical industry

The head of research, technology and domestic manufacturing at the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said greater use must be made of the private sector’s dynamic capacity to manufacture equipment for the oil industry, stressing that support for domestic manufacturers and self-sufficiency in producing equipment and parts needed by the petrochemical sector is being strengthened as a national strategy.

According to NPC, Qodratollah Nassiri said Tuesday, during the first meeting on developing domestic manufacturing in the oil industry, that local manufacturers should supply the petrochemical sector’s equipment needs by using up-to-date global knowledge and technology while meeting quality standards at competitive prices. He said domestic manufacturers have the necessary capabilities to supply equipment for the oil, gas and petrochemical industries and that empowering the private sector would help achieve planned goals in the petrochemical industry.

Nassiri emphasized that the transfer of technical know-how, localization of technology and domestic production of equipment and parts used in the oil, gas and petrochemical sectors have the full support of the Oil Ministry and NPC. He said companies active in manufacturing equipment for these industries must be supported, adding that the petrochemical sector, particularly under current conditions, enjoys significant advantages.

He said domestic manufacturers should further strengthen their research and development units to enhance international competitiveness and expand their infrastructure along the development path. Industry needs assessments will be finalized soon, and many of those needs can be met through cooperation and coordination among Iranian companies.

Nassiri said NPC, through leadership and policymaking to meet the technological needs of petrochemical companies, is ready to provide full support and cooperation. He added that maintenance and repairs at petrochemical complexes must be carried out with comprehensive planning and to the highest standards to ensure sustainable production and prevent unplanned shutdowns.
