A fire erupted in an internal crude pipeline carrying oil to the Baiji refinery in northern Iraq, a source at the state-run Northern Oil Company said on Friday.

The reason behind the fire was unclear, the source said. It was also not immediately clear if the fire had stopped the flow of oil through the pipeline.

The source said the pipeline is used to transfer crude oil from fields in Kirkuk to a refinery in the town of Baiji, 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad.

In September, the pipeline was ruptured in a suspected bomb attack. Officials said that attack did not affect crude oil exports to the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan. (Writing by Alaa Shahine, editing by Anthony Barker) More on…
