Hyseries Edge can hit 85 miles-an-hour and itÕs cheap and pollution free.

Sitting in front of a Ford dealership, this Edge doesn’t appear much different from the others on the lot.

No one stole the engine, this crossover is powered by the Ford Hyseries Drive Edge. No gasoline needed.

Ford Fuel Cell engineer Mujeeb Ijaz says “the vehicle runs on two power sources. It has a lithium-ion battery as it’s primary source and that is used for the first 25 miles of driving.“

The second is a hydrogen-powered fuelcell. A power source that charges those batteries on the fly to extend the range to 225 miles.

Even with two power sources plus a floor mounted hydrogen tank and battery pack, interior space remains the same as the model you can buy today. And things only get better.

Mujeeb Ijaz says “if you plug into the outlet in your garage at night you’ll find the costs are 65 cents a gallon equivalent to what your buying say $3.50 now.“

That saves cash, this saves the planet.

The exhause is pure water vapor.

And I’ve offered to drink it but we really aren’t sure if this is something people should be drinking.

The Hyseries Edge is very quiet. This prototype can hit 85 miles-an-hour and feel good doing it. At speed all you hear is road noise and some slight hums of different pumps.

So it’s refined, cheap to run, and pollution free. There must be a hitch.

This concept car costs $2 million.

Also, the Hydrogen refueling stations need to be built.

It will be seven to ten years before the price becomes affordable. And it may look much different because of the electric drivetrain.

Mujeeb Ijaz says “this electric powertrain is now offering us new design opportunities we didn’t have before because the engine is fundamentally gone.“

The technology that powers this edge with an edge, it will be a few years before you can park one in your driveway.

GM, BMW, Honda and Toyota are all testing hydrogen powered cars as well.
