TEHRAN -- Elimination of state subsidy on fuel along with liberalization of airplane tickets will lead to a hike in fares, said minister of roads and transportation.

According to the Persian daily "Iran", Mohammad Rahmati added that people will therefore turn to land transport.

The decline in the number of passengers will be proportionate to the increase in prices so the income and profits derived by air transport will no fall, he continued.

Rahmati said Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA) is prepared to host international travels. "Currently we are in the process of transferring international flights to this airport," he concluded.
