Eni SPA found significant oil and gas deposits in its Tulip-1 exploration well drilled in 800 m of water northeast of Kalimantan Island, Indonesia. The well is in the Bukat area in the Tarakan basin.

Well operator Eni will now move to appraise the discovery and will investigate developing it along with the Aster field nearby.

Eni and Anadarko Petroleum Corp. have completed an appraisal test of Aster field, where oil flowed at a maximum rate of more than 5,000 b/d of 28° gravity crude.

Eni is the operator of the Aster field with a 66.25% interest and Anadarko has a 33.75% interest.

In Indonesia, Eni has an equity production of 23,000 boe/d and is present in ten permits and operates five. The offshore activities are in the deep waters of Kalimantan basins and north of Sumatra Island. Eni also is active in the Mahakam River and East Kalimantan areas.
