The leaders of Poland, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine attended a summit in Poland on May 10 aimed at reducing energy dependence on Russia, according to May 11 media reports.

Rather than attend the meeting, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev hosted Russian President Vladimir Putin, who then accompanied him to three-party natural gas talks in Turkmenistan on May 11. Nazarbayev said Kazakhstan will export most of its oil to global markets through Russian territory. Russia has been accused of sabotaging Poland"s efforts to create an anti-Russian energy alliance.
