Iran Needs to Stockpile 10bn Cu. M. of Gas

TEHRAN – National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) here Sunday said the country needed to stockpile 10 billions cubic meters of natural gas.

“Given the increasing gas consumption, we have to store 10 to 15 percent of annual consumption if we plan to have a reliable and sustainable gas grid,” said the NIGC stockpiling manager.

Abdolhossein Samari added gas stockpiling was overdue, concluding that the storing of energy carrier should be sped up to compensate for the shortage.

He said the NIGC had undergone various stockpiling tests in the previous years and the task was expected to go ahead with more speed in case it found its real status and the officials paid due heed to the issue.

“Two main natural gas stockpiling projects are underway in Varamin and Qom,” added Samari.
