Cairn Announces Two Oil And Gas Finds

NEW DELHI -- Private energy major Cairn India Ltd. said Thursday it made two new oil and gas discoveries in Rajasthan state.

The company also announced the extension of its exploration activities in Rajasthan for another six months. Sharing the details of the oil and gas discoveries, a company statement said it made the discoveries in Kameshwari west-2 and Kameshwari west-3 wells.

The statement said the Kameshwari west-2 find was located 20 miles northwest of Kameshwari where the company found oil and gas reserves in 2003 and is 35 miles south of Mangala field. The latest discovery encountered 18.2 meters of net oil pay.

The company also sought an extension of its exploratory activities in the northern appraisal area of Rajasthan, which the government agreed to and extended from May 2007.

"The extension will allow us to carry out an appraisal program to delineate and explore the full potential of the northern appraisal area, which covers an area of 879 square kilometres (340 square miles). These discoveries have opened up a new play in the lower Dharvi Dungar sands on the western margin of the Rajasthan basin," the company statement explained.
