Govt. Attaches Great Importance to Strategic, Hi-Tech Industries

TEHRAN – The government has focused on and invested in both strategic and high-tech industries, said minister of industries and mines.

Alireza Tahmasbi told the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) that some of hi-tech industries were regarded as strategic although they were not placed in this category according to some definitions.

The minister said the definitions of hi-tech and strategic industries overlap each other.

“The mine and industry sector is the only sector that has accurately formulated its 20-year goals for the first time,” said Tahmasbi, adding, “As an example, we classify the energy industries as strategic industries since the necessary arrangements for its development have been made.

“On the other hand, the industries could be considered as hi-tech providing that its production cycle enjoyed state-of-the-art technology.”

He said strategic industries were in conformity with macroeconomic and political policies while investment in hi-tech industries brought about potential advantages for the industrial sector.

“Investment in research and development sector is a type of investment in hi-tech industries that aims to update the production process,” Tahmasbi added.
