Spox: New gasoline plan to take effect Saturday

SHANA (Tehran) – The government spokesperson said a new gasoline plan will take effect early Saturday, December 13, introducing several changes including the removal of fuel quotas for government-plated vehicles — except ambulances — and for imported cars and free-trade zone license plates. The plan also sets the price of gasoline purchased with station cards at 5,000 tomans per liter.

Fatemeh Mohajerani said the Cabinet approved the measure after multiple meetings of a working group formed on Dec. 2. Under the decision, the price of gasoline bought using station cards will rise to 5,000 tomans per liter starting early Saturday, Dec. 13.

She said 80 percent of the public can meet their needs with the existing monthly quota of 160 liters — 60 liters priced at 1,500 tomans and 100 liters at 3,000 tomans. Those who choose to use station cards will have to pay the 5,000-toman rate.

The spokesperson said the new plan — including the removal of quotas for government-plated cars except ambulances, imported vehicles and free-trade zone license plates, along with the new 5,000-toman station card rate — will all take effect on Saturday morning, Dec. 13.

Mohajerani added that ride-hailing platforms have confirmed they will not raise fares following the changes. She said the plan also includes provisions for motorcycles and small cargo vehicles, and that all revenue generated from the three-tier gasoline pricing system will be directed toward supporting low-income households.
