According to the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), Saeid Mostafavi said preliminary studies for the water supply and transfer project to the West Karoun oil fields have been completed. He added that, due to the project’s large scale, the necessary approvals and permits—considered prerequisites for entering the implementation phase—required review and renewal over time.
Mostafavi noted that, following the initiative of PEDEC’s managing director and ongoing coordination efforts, the project was discussed in a meeting attended by the deputy governor of Khuzestan for civil affairs, the provincial director of the Department of Environment, and other relevant officials. After expert evaluations, the project received final approval.
He added that the meeting also reviewed various water source options, and the final intake location was determined. The Department of Environment of Khuzestan has also approved the project’s environmental permit.
Mostafavi said the plan aims to ensure a sustainable water supply for injection into the West Karoun oil reservoirs, enhance production efficiency, and support the continuity of sustainable oil production.
