According to POGC, Touraj Dehqani made the remarks during the 104th meeting of the Iranian Gas Engineering Association, attended by members of its strategic committee and a number of oil industry managers and experts.
Dehqani noted that Iran, as the holder of the world’s second-largest gas reserves, ranks as the third-largest producer and the fourth-largest consumer of natural gas globally. He stressed that to maximize the benefits of this capacity, financial resources must be allocated based on clear priorities.
Highlighting the importance of professional associations as advisory arms in the oil and gas sector, Dehqani said the South Pars pressure-boosting plan will play a significant role in maintaining Iran’s gas balance in the years ahead. He added that ensuring the project’s financing should be treated as a national priority.
“The cost of upgrading and enhancing the gas industry has become far more challenging and expensive than before,” he said. “After more than two decades of production from South Pars and with the continuing rise in domestic gas consumption, we are now at a point where there can be no delay in implementing the pressure-boosting project.”
Supporting gas balance, fuel supply
Mohammad-Mehdi Tavasolipour, director of the South Pars Gas Field Pressure-Boosting Project, also spoke at the meeting, explaining the field’s production levels, the causes and effects of gas imbalance, and the strategic significance of the project.
He said the plan aims to maintain production rates at the South Pars field, prevent gas migration, manage the national gas balance, and supply a significant portion of the country’s gasoline needs.
Beyond its critical role in balancing gas supply and demand, the South Pars pressure-boosting project is expected to create more than 17,000 direct and 50,000 indirect jobs while advancing the technical capabilities of Iranian companies and supporting domestic production.
