According to the Lamerd Special Economic Zone, Hassan Abbaszadeh made the remarks Sunday, during a visit to the Shiraz Expo 2025. He said Lamerd’s unique location near major southern energy reserves and its ready access to feedstock give it exceptional potential for the development of midstream and downstream petrochemical projects.
Abbaszadeh added that the NPC is preparing feasibility studies and development plans for the methanol value chain to attract domestic and foreign investors. The goal, he said, is to establish new production units and activate downstream capacities in the Lamerd petrochemical complex, positioning the region as a new and influential petrochemical hub in the country.
Cooperation agreement between NPC, IMIDRO expected soon
The NPC chief referred to ongoing cooperation with the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) and expressed hope that, with support from the Parliament’s Energy Commission, a memorandum of understanding would soon be signed between the two organizations. The agreement aims to facilitate investment, ensure feedstock supply, and assess midstream and downstream petrochemical opportunities in the Lamerd Special Economic Zone.
Abbaszadeh noted that with the implementation of methanol value chain projects in the Lamerd downstream petrochemical park, the region is expected to become one of the country’s promising petrochemical hubs. He added that investment packages are being developed in line with national spatial planning and Iran’s marine-based economic development strategy.
Under Lamerd’s master development plan, 500 hectares of land have been allocated for the production of about 5 million tons of various midstream and downstream petrochemical products. This capacity is expected to strengthen the petrochemical economy in southern Iran and promote marine-oriented economic growth.
