Gas tariffs for high consumers to rise steeply

SHANA (Tehran) – The managing director of Tehran Gas Company urged citizens to prepare for the cold season by following safety measures and using energy efficiently, warning that gas tariffs for high-consuming households will be calculated at the highest residential rate this winter if excessive use continues.

According to the Tehran Gas Company, Alireza Avani said text alerts have recently been sent to high-usage customers in the capital, urging them to begin managing and reducing their gas consumption ahead of the winter season. The goal, he said, is to prevent supply imbalances and maintain stable gas flow during the colder months.

Avani noted that under guidelines issued by the National Iranian Gas Company, customers who fail to curb their excessive consumption this year—similar to last winter—will face bills calculated at the top tier of the household tariff. The move is intended to discourage wasteful use and promote responsible energy consumption among families.

Emphasizing the importance of preparing heating systems before temperatures drop, Avani urged residents to have their heaters, water heaters, and boilers fully serviced and inspected for safety before turning them on. Regular maintenance and checking chimneys for blockages, he said, can improve efficiency, reduce gas use, and prevent accidents.

Safety first in gas use

Avani stressed that ensuring safety while using gas is a key responsibility for all households during winter. Residents should make sure gas appliances are functioning properly, that rooms are well-ventilated, and that heating systems operate safely, he said. Neglecting these measures could lead to serious incidents such as gas poisoning or fires.

He added that maintaining a stable gas supply in winter is only possible through public cooperation and urged Tehran residents to observe safety rules and conserve energy to ensure a safe, warm, and trouble-free winter for everyone.

Avani said customers with questions or needing guidance can contact the company’s call center at 1594 from Saturday to Wednesday during office hours. In case of emergencies or suspected gas leaks, residents can call the 24-hour emergency hotline at 194 for immediate assistance from Tehran Gas Company specialists.
