South Pars Phase 1 platforms complete overhaul

SHANA (Tehran) – The largest overhaul program for South Pars Phase 1 platforms has been successfully completed with more than 15,000 safe work-hours and no incidents, the head of Phase 1 production operations said.

Bahman Taherpour said the overhaul program for the SPQ1, SPP1 and SPD1 production, processing and support platforms was completed in 18 days, the Pars Oil and Gas Co. reported. Work involved offshore repair crews, mechanics, workshop operators, electrical and instrumentation teams, process engineers, inspectors, planners and safety specialists.

He noted that because Phase 1 platforms include a processing platform and have operational differences compared with other South Pars platforms, they undergo the heaviest and longest annual overhauls. This year’s program was the largest ever in terms of the number of repair orders and man-hours, he added.

Taherpour said 100% of the planned overhaul was achieved, with more than 1,141 work orders completed. These included 670 instrumentation tasks, 229 mechanical jobs, 104 electrical tasks, 81 inspections of tanks and pipelines, and 57 workshop repairs onshore.

In total, 15,469 safe work-hours were logged, he said. Of that, 6,538 hours were dedicated to mechanical work, 1,811 to instrumentation and 1,718 to onshore workshop repairs.

More than 154 tanks, safety and process valves were inspected, repaired, painted and calibrated, Taherpour added. Major tasks included reinforcing a 32-inch riser, replacing flare components 76 meters above sea level, and carrying out heavy work in harsh offshore conditions.

He said the platforms have returned to production and praised all teams involved. Given the central role of Phase 1 in supporting other South Pars production facilities, he said, the overhaul was based on precise planning and close cooperation among offshore and onshore repair crews, logistics and support teams, safety units, inspectors and production staff.
