“Based on historical rights and negotiation records, we do not accept any unilateral claims regarding this field,” said Esmaeil Baqaei during a press conference.
Baqaei’s remarks addressed a joint statement by the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). He stated that Iran had detailed its positions in a statement issued earlier that day, which emphasized that repeating territorial claims against the sovereign territory of an independent state is unacceptable.
“These claims and their repetition do not create any rights for the other party and only fuel misunderstandings,” he said, adding that the region should instead be united against the main threat: the expansionism, warmongering, and genocide committed by the Israeli regime against Muslim people in occupied Palestine.
Baqaei expressed regret that the GCC meetings were used to repeat baseless claims against Iran, asserting that such statements do not alter the geographical, historical, and legal realities concerning the Iranian islands and have no effect on Iran’s unequivocal and absolute sovereignty over this part of its territory.
Regarding the Arash gas field, the spokesman reiterated, “We have always emphasized bilateral talks with Kuwait to reach a fair and lasting understanding concerning this joint field, and we remain ready to continue these negotiations.”
