MP says US oil sanctions policy against Iran has failed

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of the Iranian Parliament’s Energy Committee said the US believes that by intensifying sanctions and imposing restrictions on individuals, entities and international companies, it can disrupt Iran’s oil sales and revenue. However, he stated, this policy has failed.

Mousa Ahmadi, responding to the latest US sanctions on Iran’s oil and energy sector, said: "The United States’ hostility toward the Iranian people has a long history. Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, we have consistently faced various economic sanctions."

He noted that Washington has tried in recent years to impose restrictions and sanctions against Iran in all areas, adding: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is well-versed in neutralizing and circumventing sanctions. If one path is blocked, we have multiple alternative paths to continue advancing our objectives."

The Energy Committee chairman said: "The Americans think that by escalating sanctions and restrictions on individuals, entities and international companies, they can impact Iran’s oil sales and revenue. But this policy has failed."
