Mohammadreza Aref, speaking on the sidelines of the third Caspian Sea Economic Conference in Tehran on Monday, met with Khojamurad Geldimuradov, deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
Aref highlighted Turkmenistan’s special role in Iran’s neighborhood-focused foreign policy strategy, noting that the two countries are not only neighbors but also share deep historical ties. He referenced a statement by Iran’s Leader, who described Iran and Turkmenistan as “relative countries.”
Aref pointed to frequent high-level diplomatic exchanges between the two nations, stating there are no barriers to enhancing Tehran-Ashgabat relations. He expressed hope that agreements and negotiations during the recent Turkmen delegation’s visit to Iran would be finalized and implemented promptly.
The VP proposed expanding bilateral trade and deepening economic ties, with a focus on private sector engagement and government facilitation. He also underscored the strategic importance of the Caspian Sea Economic Conference in fostering economic, environmental, tourism, and investment cooperation among Caspian littoral states.
Geldimuradov conveyed warm greetings from Turkmenistan’s national leader and president, describing Iran as one of Turkmenistan’s largest and most important neighbors. He emphasized Turkmenistan’s serious commitment to enhancing cooperation with Iran across various sectors.
Muradov noted that diplomatic visits between the two countries have significantly boosted industrial, production, investment, and trade collaboration.
He described Iran as a strategic, long-term, and forward-looking economic partner for Turkmenistan, highlighting the importance of increasing bilateral trade.
