Unity in language, vision, policy vital for OPEC

SHANA (Tehran) - The president emphasized the importance of keeping OPEC away from political gamesmanship, stating, "I believe that if OPEC members act united and cohesively, the US cannot sanction or pressure any one member."

Masoud Pezeshkian, on Wednesday, during a meeting with Haitham al-Ghais, Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), congratulated him on his re-election and wished him success in his new term.

Pezeshkian noted, "Just as we seek to strengthen harmony, cohesion, and unity within our country, we also aim to foster brotherhood among our neighbors and Islamic nations. Achieving a common language, perspective, and policy among OPEC members is of great importance."

He highlighted the effort to keep OPEC away from political maneuvering as a key principle, adding, "Sharing experiences, achievements, and collective market management are serious areas of collaboration among OPEC members. Members must act in a way that does not harm one another. I believe that if OPEC members act united and cohesively, the U.S. cannot sanction or pressure any one member."

Haitham al-Ghais, OPEC's Secretary-General, thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its constructive role in the organization, stating, "Iran, as one of OPEC's founding members, has always played a positive role in the organization. During my tenure as Secretary-General, I have sought to ensure OPEC works toward the interests of all members, promoting market stability and sustainability."

He added, "We have worked to strengthen cooperation among member countries, treating them as members of one family pursuing collective interests. Strengthening this spirit of cooperation is crucial for the future of member countries. The improved relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia have enabled OPEC to play a more powerful role in the market."
