Hasan Mousavi, the NIGC spokesperson, stated that out of the 871 mcm of gas consumed nationwide on Tuesday, the majority was allocated to these sectors. He noted that this figure represents an 11% increase compared to the same day last year.
Mousavi also highlighted the impact of the "2 Degrees Less" campaign, initiated by the president, which has led to a 5% reduction in household gas consumption.
The campaign, aimed at promoting energy conservation, has helped lower gas usage in the household, commercial, and minor industrial sectors from a projected 715 mcm in the first week of the 10th month of Iranian calendar year to 671 mcm.
Mousavi expressed hope that continued efforts under the campaign would result in further savings.
Gas conservation efforts show results
Since the beginning of the year (March 20, 2024), over 110 million text messages have been sent to customers to encourage energy efficiency and promote a culture of responsible gas consumption.
Mousavi emphasized that the 44 million cubic meters saved through the "2 Degrees Less" campaign were achieved by monitoring and reducing consumption in public and administrative centers, as well as cutting off gas supply to vacation homes.
Mousavi identified Alborz, Tehran, Isfahan, Mazandaran, Khorasan Razavi, and East Azarbaijan as the provinces with the highest gas consumption.
Tehran and Alborz topped the list, accounting for 20% and 10% of the country’s total gas consumption, respectively.
He reiterated the importance of continued conservation efforts to manage gas resources effectively, especially during peak winter demand.
