Mohammad Tohri, operations manager at the Abadan Refinery, said the incident occurred on Thursday in a section of decommissioned pipelines outside operational units.
“The presence of residual oil in the decommissioned lines contributed to the fire, but it was quickly extinguished by the timely efforts of HSE and firefighting teams. Cooling operations are currently underway,” Tohri added.
He explained that cutting operations in the pipeline path caused old hydrocarbon residues to ignite, resulting in flames and smoke.
Tohri emphasized that production and transfer of oil products at the Abadan Refinery are continuing at full capacity without any interruptions.
