Paknejad announces 50% hike in liquid fuel delivery to power plants

SHANA (Tehran) – The oil minister announced that the delivery of liquid fuel to power plants in the first four months of the 14th administration increased by about 50% compared to the same period last year.

Mohsen Paknejad emphasized that this achievement was only possible through the determination and effort of colleagues in the refining and distribution sector, whose performance is commendable.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday during a visit to the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, Paknejad addressed the ministry's efforts to ensure the country's winter fuel supply amidst an early onset of cold weather. "This year is unique in terms of the intensity and early arrival of the cold," he said.

He noted the challenges at the beginning of the 14th government regarding the insufficient liquid fuel reserves at power plants. "The fuel stock was far from stable," he said. "However, this issue was quickly identified, and my colleagues began working to resolve it immediately."

Paknejad praised the efforts of the refining and distribution teams, saying, "Today, I had the opportunity to be among my colleagues in this sector to acknowledge their significant efforts in fuel delivery, particularly to power plants. Their achievements, reflected in the data, are record-breaking."

Paknejad highlighted that over 2.2 billion liters of additional liquid fuel were delivered to power plants in the first four months of the 14th administration compared to the same period last year, representing a 50% increase.

"Those familiar with this sector understand that such an achievement would not have been possible without the determination of our colleagues in refining and distribution," he stated. "They set ambitious goals and have performed remarkably so far."

He also commented on the current fuel usage and power outages, noting that power plants were expected to use fuel oil alongside gas and diesel during the summer.

"Unfortunately, this didn’t happen due to certain reasons, but it’s now being utilized," the minister added.

Commitment to supporting colleagues

As Yalda Night approaches—a traditional celebration marking the longest night of the year—Paknejad reflected on the sacrifices of industry workers.

"I doubt many of our colleagues will spend this night with their families. Given the cold winter days, we typically spend such moments together with our colleagues," he said.

The minister expressed hope that Yalda Night could symbolize positive transformations for families and the nation.

Acknowledging the harsh working conditions in the oil industry, especially during cold weather, the minister said, "The oil industry operates under these challenging conditions. When crises arise in upstream or downstream sectors, workers often face life-threatening risks, confronting extreme challenges with dedication and sacrifice."

Paknejad emphasized the importance of recognizing and compensating oil workers for their efforts and risks. "As a colleague of these individuals, I will do my utmost to address their needs and ensure their contributions are acknowledged within regulatory frameworks," he said.

Message for women, families

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Hazrat Fatimah (SA), Paknejad extended his congratulations to mothers and women in Iran.

He noted their pivotal role in raising children and promoting energy conservation. "I urge all mothers and women to guide their families in energy efficiency and conservation," he said, aiming for a culture of optimal resource use across the country.
