NIOC Head Underlines the Importance of Passive Defense

SHANA (Tehran) -The CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Hamid Bovard, stated that the oil industry is the driving engine of the country’s economy, underscoring its importance in passive defense.

Speaking at the third Passive Defense Conference today, he added that the oil industry provides 90% of the country’s energy needs and that is why the country must consider implementing a comprehensive energy plan.

The CEO mentioned that five critical points, 17 sensitive points, and 30 important points in the oil industry have been identified in collaboration with the National Passive Defense Organization and significant amounts have been allocated to the development of passive defense in the oil industry.

 He recalled that since the early 2000s, when the National Passive Defense Organization was established by the order of the Supreme Leader, the oil industry has maintained close ties with the body, adding that the latest joint activity of these two entities was the preparation of a comprehensive passive defense document for the oil industry, in which the National Iranian Oil Company also participated.

He further mentioned that 34 topics on passive defense training in the public, chemical, and biological fields, as well as conducting 250,000 person-hours of training on cyber and infrastructure protection, are among other activities carried out in this sector. 

The CEO of the NIOC stated that so far over 60 passive defense drills have been conducted at various levels in onshore and offshore operational areas of the oil industry.
