Natural Gas Certificates Trade Soon

SHANA (Tehran) - The NIGC’s director for energy and carbon, Sajed Kashefi, says that trading of the natural gas saving certificates will be started in Iran’s Energy Exchange (IRENEX) in near future.

Speaking with Shana correspondent, Kashefi further said that the certificates have been issued with the aim of optimizing energy consumption and protecting the environment.

He said NIGC intends, in cooperation with Iran Fuel Conservation Company (IFCO), to deploy the reforming consumption pattern law contents, article 26, to launch a market for trading natural gas saving certificates during the off-peak periods.

“Under the article 1.5 of the of the year 1396 (2017) regulations pertaining to creation of an environment and energy optimization market, the natural gas saving certificates are securities showing its owner has a right to possess a specific volume of the saved gas during a specific period of time which can be traded at energy optimization market.

According to him, formation of an environment and energy optimization market, justification of investment in consumption pattern optimization projects and the final consumer’s benefit are among the privileges of holding these certificates.

The NIGC official said that the volume of gas that was taken into consideration for issuing the certificates is equivalent to 10 billion cubic meters per year.
